I have always been passionate about light ... from the way it defines the intricate forms in nature to the emotional
states it evokes in the world around us. Light can transport you to a particular time and place or bring drama to the
most ordinary of objects. It is these characteristics of light that I try to capture in my paintings. I am fascinated by the
intricacies of nature and how light accentuates them.
In todays world it is all too easy to overlook the beauty and perfection that nature has to offer. What I am trying to
do with my art is to bring that beauty of the unobserved to the viewer. The intricate patterns and forms of a flower or
plant have a spiritual significance to me. I am more interested in the abstract nature of these characteristics than
simply rendering a likeness. I like to work large enough that you can appreciate the space that these forms occupy,
and the dramatic effect that light has on defining them.
I approach my landscapes in a similar way, looking for a quality of light that evokes a sense of place and
atmospheric conditions. I believe that there is a spiritual energy that permeates the world around us, and certain
times of day and qualities of light facilitate a connection to that energy. I see art as a conduit between this world
and the spiritual one.
I have been drawing and painting in one form or another since I was 7 or 8 years old. It's in my DNA, I have to do
it. I have a BFA in painting from the University of Kansas and have worked for many years as a freelance Illustrator.
My more recent personal work has an intimacy that I am pleased with, however I am constantly striving to better
know and express myself. I am excited to see where my self discovery through my art will lead me next.
